Calling Dr. Freud

Don't doctors on media drive you up the wall?

It’s April 15th…Is Donald Trump crazy? Is Joe Biden demented?

Haven’t each of these people demonstrated examples of mental decline?

Didn’t you just hear some doctor you have never heard of diagnose these candidates on someone’s website?

And isn’t weaponized media eager to blast these kinds of things all over the place? Trump’s lost it! Biden stumbles over words!

Sure it is…there’s ratings in that stuff, you know?

But I have some questions.

What kind of doctor makes a diagnosis from something he saw on TV?

And second…and this is probably more important…what kind of doctor blabbers his diagnosis all over media?

If you met your GP downtown and the first thing he said was…I think your old girlfriend Ginger…sweet girl……you know, I saw her downtown yesterday…she clearly needs psychiatric help. She’s slipping fast.

What would you think about that?

This is not exactly the same…but close enough. Whose interest is served by these kinds of guesses?

Maybe the docs have written books about the mental health of political candidates. That would make it a business thing at least.

But I think not.

I think what’s going on is one of those strange media-politics marriages in which everyone gets a slice of something.

Media loves it because it does wonders for ratings…there is enough hatred afoot this time around that bad news of any kind is eagerly embraced and shared by ardent supporters and enemies on each side…

and media is where you find the bad news stimulus for that kind of response.

Look, I’m an old man and I have gone through lots of serious doctoring these past few years.

None of my docs diagnosed me based on how I seemed on TV.

I actually went to hospitals and doctor’s offices to bleed and get poked and prodded and measured and get real diagnoses.

You know…the whole boring medical science thing.

This is different.

One of these guys is going to be president of the United States… it would be prudent to keep speculating TV doctors  on the sidelines. Of course, it draws eyeballs. But there are bigger questions here.

The most they should say is “Gee..I don’t know…he’s not my patient and I couldn’t say  anything if he was. You know….I took an oath.”

Actual doctors who have examined the candidates as patients…that’s a different matter. If the candidate says release the information…then the floodgates of speculation swing wide open.

I’m eager to know about that stuff.

I have a burning  medical question this very moment:

How much fast food does it take to saturate your blood with so much fat that it will kill you?

And perhaps as important…how soon?
